- The
sun illuminates the cloudy sky
- With
spots of brightness by and by
- And
far away the streaks of light
- Mean
someone basks in sunshine bright.
-
- When
clouds would over-paint the sun
- And
make me think the day is done,
- I
must remember, then, the sight
- Of
deepest darkness, near midnight.
-
- When
I compare the day to night,
- the
clouds can't hope to dim the light.
-
- And
when I think that God's not there--
- A
vale of tears, a load to bear--
- I
must consider, then, the sight
- Of
deepest darkness, “spirit night".
-
- But
then, I've never known a time
- When
God had "set", His pow'r sublime
- Was
truly absent from my life,
- Regardless
of this present strife.
-
- His
light to dark I can't compare;
- I've
never seen dark anywhere.
